Licensed Clinical Psychologist & Nationally Certified School Psychologist
Dr. Ethan Schilling is a licensed clinical psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist with over 10 years’ experience supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and families.
After obtaining his PhD in school psychology with a minor in pediatric psychology from the University of Georgia in 2013, he spent 10 years as a faculty member at Western Carolina University where he taught undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, engaged in research related to advancing knowledge of school supports needed for students facing chronic health difficulties, and mentored the next generation of school psychologists in training.
As a childhood cancer survivor himself, Dr. Ethan has always been passionate about helping
individuals and families navigating life challenges, including those dealing with health-related
concerns. This led him to completing a fellowship in clinical psychology in the division of
pediatric hematology/oncology and transplantation at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU
from 2024-2026. He is excited to now join the great team at Be. Emotional Health in contributing
to the comprehensive family support they provide!
As a psychologist, Dr. Ethan offers a solution-focused approach to therapy in “meeting clients
where they’re at” and helping them to realize their full potential through making manageable
changes in their lives. He uses a variety of clinical techniques and approaches depending on
the needs of the individual and family, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and
Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Dr. Ethan is also excited to offer neurocognitive, educational, and psychological evaluation
options at Be. Emotional Health. As a clinical and school psychologist, he brings a wealth of
knowledge and experience in providing families with testing, comprehensive reports, and
actionable recommendations targeting the home, work, and school functioning of the individual.
In his free time, Ethan enjoys the outdoors, swimming, the arts/live theater, traveling, good
coffee, dining out/trying new restaurants, and spending time with his family and friends, his
husband Jay, and their Australian Cattle Dog Merle.
